These are my girls (older photo). The last few days I noticed they were very noisy and then, "plop" - an egg! Sadly, one of my kids took over her roost with a toy ball and the poor girl tried to lay her egg over the top of it which resulted in a cracked egg. Boo!

Is it normal for it to be so long?

Nice to be here and thanks in advance! :D

Welcome! That looks like it may be a double yoke and typical with hens that start to lay eggs.

    Doubles are great! [IMG]

Only one... I had thought the same before picking it up!

After having store bought eggs most of my life, I was surprised by the quality of this egg! It fell a decent distance, cracked and hardly spilled out until after I picked it up and even then, the spillage wasn't much and it was thicker.

So impressed. I have two chickens, I may need two more!
