(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first gotten my chickens about two years ago when I still lived in Colorado to get some experience of raising livestock before moving to a homestead in Vermont. I instantly became enamored with them and have been raising them since!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently, I have 10 chicks. The first six I gotten were from a month ago, and four were hatched this morning with more coming as we speak!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have Brahmas, Jersey Giants, Americaunas, and Easter Eggers. Eventually though, I'd like to get Salmon Faverolles, Russian Orloffs, Buckeyes, Australorps, and so much more! My end goal is to create wonderful, independent barn yard mixes that do well in my region/climate.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I tend to enjoy watching them forage together out in the yard the most, but I can't say no to some awesome eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I do worldbuilding/art, knitting, crochet, gaming, and reading!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two wonderful partners, two cats, and one Australian cattle dog mix. I'm a homesteader and part time illustrator who's goal is to create a permaculture farm that can help support not only my family but the community food banks around me.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC a while back while looking up information about chickens during my pioneering years with them and decided to join in to be a part of the fun!
