Just wanted to introduce myself. We live in VT and bought an 1810 Federal this past year that has an attached barn. It took me 10 months to mosey on up there (moving and settling into a new community with 3 children)...and have sink in the beautiful chicken coop that was in-tact there complete with newspapers from 1942 shredded in the nesting boxes...showing the last use of the coop [IMG]
I have had a new chicken obsession reading many posts here, begging dh, and finally stalking craigslist after braving my fear of spiders and cobwebs to go up and clean clean clean to fullfill my burning chicken desire.
I bought some lovely pullets- 4 at the point of lay and, 5, 5-weekers (now 6 weeks) from BikerBabeRules who lives close to us.
We are still working on the coop....installing a railing around the door this past weekend, as well as will be installing a wire covered ramp to the soon-to-be fenced in yard out back from the coop. Will keep pics of our progress. But wanted to share where we are at so far!
Nice to "meet" everyone here and so thankful for all the great topics covered so far! [IMG]

we put the chicken wire that you see in front of the younger pullets under the night perches to seperate them awhile longer, and have already deconstructed our baby-crib and begun a railing installation around the coop door (in the floor). Should be done with that soon.

I love it!! Old stuff is so cool. There must be a lot of history there. That is great!! Have fun!! And Welcome to BYC.

That's a beautiful building. It looks similar to one of the buildings we have also. Ours needs some tweaking before we can put our chickens in it.

Ooooooh. I would looooove to have an old building like that. What a lovely place for your chickens! I hope they're not haunted by the ghost of chickens past. That place looks like it has major history!
