This project took me (alone) 2 weeks to complete. I first had to build a pony wall above my stuccoed wall as a base for the rafters. Redwood was used for all framing, for the exception of the house which is T-111 (another exterier wood application). The metal roof is 29 gauge pro-panel which is the minimum that should be used for structural application in leu of decking material.

Anyway, the king & his court seem pleasantly surprised.

I live in NM & approximately 3 miles from the Rio Grande. It is ironic you would mention raccoons because being this far from their supposs’ed habitat I did not think they would be an issue…I was wrong. My neighbor set out a live trap because something was invading his bird feeders. Yup…a huge male raccoon. I will address this ASAP.

Thanks again JT.

Points well taken & I can see where moisture would be a concern of yours (Michigan). I’m from NM where humidity is almost none existent. I have 28 chickens in another coop & run & their feeder holds 100lbs. It lasts for about a month & a half, & I have absolutely no issues with mold/mildew.

As for the larger capacity feeder, I only serve the four enough to hold them for a month, but again, no humidity issues here.

"200 lbs of feed for 3 birds?"

Actually there are 4...but I get your point. Let's just say I'm cautiously optimistic my breeding program will warrant the extra capacity. This coop is phase one. The feeder will eventually straddle two separate areas.
Freshness would be my biggest concern, then moisture and rodents.
My 15 birds go thru 50# in about a month, I keep feed in a metal garbage can and every morning dole out what they can eat in about 24 hours.
