My wife and I just picked up 6 chicks (2 RI Red, 1 Ameraucana, 1Barred Rock, 1 Orbington)! We've been planning/talking about it for the last few months and I spent 2 weekends and a few days after work building the coop. I built the coop from the Garden Coop plans. They're pretty good and I'm happy with how it all came out. I still have to paint and do other odds and ends, but the chicks are in the henhouse tonight!! The dog and I will check on them in the morning.

Welcome to BYC! I assume you have a heat source for the chicks?
Good luck!

Thanks! I have a heat lamp that seems to be doing its job since when I check on them they weren't right under it. The dog is cautiously interested. She's a pretty gentle dog and was sitting at the door wanting to go back out after we checked the food and water this morning.

Thanks CTKen for the tips. I can certainly use all the help I can get and will join my state's group!
