I'm new to Backyard Chickens ! I have a question right off the bat ! We have 26 total " babies" that are about 10 weeks old now. A mix of Rhode Island Reds, Golden Comets, and 2 of what we think are Black Australorps ( they were " rescues" from someone's trash can ). All chicks look healthy & are active. But one has significantly lighter colored legs than all the rest. Also, she is blind in one eye. I'm concerned she is lacking a certain something in her diet & that's why her legs are so much lighter. I've also noticed that our grown Rhode Island Red roosters have lighter colored legs than our hens. So that could be a possibility... But her feathers are rounded like a hen. Someone suggested putting electrolytes in the chick's water. Thank you in advance !

    :welcome!

Different breeds have different leg colors, so lighter colored legs are perfectly normal depending on her breed. Chickens also vary individual to individual. Electrolytes in the water are never a bad idea :)

    Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree that each bird is individual even when they are of the same breed. While everyone is looking active and healthy are they are eating and drinking well I would try not to be too worried.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow
