    Hello All!!!

Very excited to say our 4 babies will be home today or tomorrow! We ordered them from mypetchicken.com we ordered a buff orpington, barred plymouth rock, white cochin and a golden laced wyandotte (the wyandottes didnt have a good hatch rate so they switched us for a speckled sussex) cant wait to meet them!!!) We wanted to make sure we had hearty birds that will be okay in the winter here and birds that are okay staying in our enclosed coop / run. All of these brids seem to fit the bill.

We (my husband and I ) ordered a coop from amazon and it should come sometime this week. very excited to put it together. I already have a laundry list of modifications I want to do...starting with a ladder-like perch set up inside, re-wire the whole coop with hardware cloth, and put better latches and add locks to all openings.

We are new to chickens but were very excited for this pet adventure.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Make sure that when your babies arrive you check for pasty butt and dip their beaks in water. This is will give them a boost of energy. Also you may want to put some ACV (one teaspoon per quart) or some sugar in their water.

They'll be very loud and cold when they arrive so try not to cuddle and play with them. Let them get used to their home, surroundings and siblings for the first day. Then you can start bonding with them.

Also remember to lower the temperate in the brooder by 5 degrees each week.

So glad you joined us and enjoy your babies!!!
