Guess I skipped the introduction and went right for the questions! My name is Kristi and I am from Maine. I grew up on a dairy farm and now live with my boyfriend on a small farm. We currently have 3 Holsteins & a Jersey bull calf that will all most likely be filling the freezers this fall. My boyfriends father has a few laying hens of his own. I have 26 broilers coming on May 6th. This is my first chicken experience. I wanted to raise my own dinner basically as a hobby for the summer but also to have the experience of raising my own food whether it be a garden of vegetables or meat on my table. Growing up on the farm has taught me the process of how our meat makes it to the table, I am no stranger to that part of life. I know I will not have any problem with the butchering process although I will be hiring out for that! Love to hear others opinions and I hope to learn a lot being here. I did read "Raising Chickens for Dummies" and feel like I know a lot already. My BF thought I was crazy and laughed at me for reading a "Dummy" book, but after proving him wrong on many things he thought he knew about chickens I can say I'm pretty proud of myself!
