Hello all !


I am new to the forums, I just build my chicken coop on the weekend, I modified one of the designs I found on here and I will be posting that as soon as I get the pain and roof done !

I will be starting off with about 8 chickens. I plan on going with some sort of excellent layer like a Rhode Island and mixing them up with two Silkie (if I can find any in my area)

About me -

My wife and I have a small 10 Acre farm. I am a Scientist by day and a farmer by night. I love my tractor and I can't wait to start getting Farm fresh eggs !

Brrr! Central Ontario must be cold! You mentioned that you are starting off with 8 chickens, are you also purchasing chicks?

It sure is cold during the winter. I made sure to insulate my chicken coop so that my little egg layers will manage.

I am starting off Brand new- Never done this before so I am currently on the search for the Silkies. The larger more popular egg layers are usually on sale the the local farmers co-op. I would like to try and start the chickens from 1 dayers.
