My husband and I moved to a rural area several years ago and decided to try and be a little more self-sufficient. Our first set of chickens were some kind of a cross-breed and were VERY aggressive. We were not sorry to finally put them in the stew pot! We now have all Buff Orpingtons; 1 roo and 5 hens in the grown-up pen, looks like 2 roos and 1 hen in the intermediate tractor (16 weeks) and 4 yet-to-be-determined-but-I-think-1-roo-and-3-pullets in the 4 week old brooder. We also have started with rabbits this fall and are anxiously waiting for our first set of babies there, and honey bees are coming in the spring. Now if I can just find time to finish canning.....!
