Hi, I have been reading alot on BYC alot lately and finally decided to join. I have a 3 year old hen that i got when she was 3 or 4 months old, 1 roo who I got about a month ago and 5 other hens that came with the roo, i dont know their ages but they are just starting to lay and I suspect this is their first laying season. Before I got the roo and his gals I got 12 (supposedly) fertile eggs from a friend and incubated them... only two were fertile and only one hatched.. so i also have a 4 1/2 week old lone chick, I call it a he but idk yet. All of them are mutts I believe.

Welcome!

Aaaw, what a little cutie!

If you would like some opinions on breed or gender, this Forum is the best place to post individual pictures: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Hi and welcome to BYC. If you can, I'd suggest getting a couple of little ones of roughly the same age. Chickens are social animals and thrive in groups. Your chicks will be a bit miserable for the first 6 months or so.

Best wishes
