Hi all! My husband and I are brand new to the chicken community although I have a tiny bit of experience from helping out with a flock from our former church in Oakland. We have five chicks right now that are happy and healthy and a nine year old mutt that we hope will become their guardian (he goes into their room with me every night and lets them climb all over him or burrow under him for a nap).

One thing that I found alarming is that I saw a post saying that you could keep three chickens in CV with no permit. I contacted the county (we're unincorporated) and that is not true. The officer in charge of chickens had heard the rumor and was frustrated by it, so I was wondering how you go about setting the record straight? For any chickens in a residential area, you are required to obtain and maintain an annual 'fanciers permit' for $50. We'll definitely be doing everything by the book, but I also wanted to put this information out there for anyone who bought in to the 'three chicken rule'!
