Hi- I'm from central Mass, and have had chickens for 5 years. We started with 2 bantoms that we got from a family that needed to relocate their pets and coop because of divorce. Now that coop has moved 2 more times with me, and it houses 7 hens. My hens are getting older, and production has really dwindled. But, now that spring is here, we they lay just enough eggs to keep the fridge full! I joined this site becuse I was looking for help/advise. One of my neighbors decided to complain, and now our town health department has given me just 10 days to "relocate" my chickens. The Health Inspector told me that he was unaware of any ordinance against chickens when I inquired 3 years ago (before I bought my house in the town). Now they say that "livestock" is not and has not ever been allowed on any residential lot. I wish I never bought a home in this town, and now I am stuck here. I can't decide if i should fight or give up. I do have a friend in a nearby town that could house my hens with hers. Please see my post/reply in the "interpret my ordinace" thread started by Meara. Thanks for reading!
