Hi my name is Gretchen and I'm new to BYC. I moved from Memphis Tn. to Springfield Tn. I'm out in the country and I want to raise some chickens. My friend found me some blue prints for a coop made from pallets that husband is going to build. I joined bc I know nothing and I figured you all know everything and can help me. I really like the Polish Crested Chickens!! Thanks everyone
Hello and Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock! Browse the learning center for great advice: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and ask all the questions you have and we will try to answer them! Good luck and have fun with your chicken adventure!
Hi Glad you could join the flock! The learning centre is a great place to start for all the info, here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center I too have a certain addiction to the polish chickens absolutely love them and have just hatch out another 13 of them from my own flock. They make great pets as they are super friendly and really do enjoy being with you. Sometimes to the point of being pests getting under feet and wanting to sit on your lap and even shoulders as pirate parrots! I woukd just point out a few things about them though they don't do well in mixed flocks as their crests can attract unwanted attention from other members. Also the crests and eyes need regular checking because they can cover the eyes. They prefer to be in a run as they feel safer due to not seeing as well as non crested birds. Wishing you the best of luck with your new venture and be sure to ask any questions you may have, everyone here to help. Enjoy BYC
Thanks everyone!! I'm super excited. I had someone tell me the best time to get the chicks was the end of March, is that true?
Welcome to BYC, Gretchen. Glad you decided to our flock. The end of March is a great time to get chicks. I used to raise Golden Laced Polish and they were delightful birds. I'm sure you will really enjoy yours. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your chicks.
