My name is Mike. I have 29 Guinea Fowl of different breeds, mostly Pearls. I also have a new member to the family that I call "Lucky" He is a Red Golden Pheasant that thinks he is a Guinea and arrived 2 weeks ago when I let the birds out to forage. Poor bird has been clipped and where I live that is a bad thing because there are plenty of predators looking for a meal. I look forward to learning a lot from this community and sharing what I may from past experiences. What else can I say? I love all birds and if I lived farther away from society I would have a zillion of them. Do I raise birds to eat...no, do I raise birds because I love to watch their mannerisms?......You bet. I can come home from a crappy day at work and watch the birds go crazy after seeing a new cat show up on the property and get in a line formation and scare it off....it is very satisfying.

Nice to meet you Mike. That poor pheasant didn't ask to have his wings clipped. You need to shelter him till they grow back or expect he'll be the first one to be taken by predators.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about Guineas or Pheasants (never had either one), but definitely post on our Other Backyard Poultry section under the forum at the top of the page and take advantage of our Guinea and Pheasant experts there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

    Hi Mike, [IMG]

Raising birds, whether they be pheasants, guineas, or chickens, etc. is very satisfying. It's nice to hear you're enjoying them.

Thanks for joining us, it would be fun to see a picture of some of yours if you care to share!
