    Hello fellow chicken farmers.

My name it Tim and my wife is Libby.

We started our first flock last year and so far we are enjoying it.

My wife is a pre-k teacher and has had a Spring section in which she gets chicks and the class raises them for about a month. She then gives them away. A couple years ago, she had a hard time getting someone to take them so we decided to keep them the next year. Our birds were hatched 4/1/14.

We have 7 Buff Orpingtons and we get an average of 5 eggs per day.

I like letting them run the yard when I am working outside and the neighbors love watching them too. They even bring scraps over once in a while. Earlier today I caught one of my neighbors tossing some stale bread and oatmeal cookies to them as they were scratching around the yard. I think my dog got the cookies, lol.

The dog and the chickens like to play. The dog will run around and chase the chickens. They will fly/run away and then sneak up on him when he is not looking and peck at him. He jumps and takes off on a dead run. It is hilarious.

Anyway, that is a bit about me and I hope to learn a lot from all the experts on this site.

    Tim

Welcome to BYC, Tim and Libby. Glad you decided to our flock. My wife is a former pre-k teacher and we have some Buff Orpingtons in our flock as well. We've raised BOs for years, and they are a wonderful breed; very hardy, calm and friendly (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your BOs.
