Hi all

Short time lurker, new poster ;)

We are from the UK originally but now live in eastern Luxembourg and have kept chickens on and off for about ten years now.
We started with rescue hens from batteries but have occasionally had chickens hatched by my wife's father, or more recently some hybrid layers purchased from an agricultural supplier in Belgium. We're currently waiting for the postman to deliver us some eggs that our son is going to try to hatch; this will be our first experience with babies, so I'll be hoping to draw on members' experience in that area.

I love rehabilitating rescue hens and seeing the progress from filthy and traumatised bags of bones with barely any feathers, back to fully socialised and instinct driven birds; it only takes a week or so to see them out and about, scratching and dust bathing, a couple of months to get their plumage back, but they never really seem to get used to handling, and they seem to fight more than birds who have only ever been free range.

We have five hens right now - Custard, Rhubarb, Roberta and two who are just called "the twins" because we can't tell them apart!
