Hello,
I am in Indianapolis. I am new to chickens but have raised parrots for 35 years. Since i am downsizing, I plan on raising a few chickens....4-12 to start. I have an almost 7 year old grandson , who will be fascinated by this new hobby.

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us.

I've no doubt your knowledge of parrots will be most valuable to interested members.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - Find Your State Thread

Best wishes

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

I live it! Parrots to chickens

Sussex And Orpington are gentle curious breeds which do well with children. Buy from a breeder. A bunch of them here on BYC. Both breeds have Clubs with lists of breeders. Same with Ameraucana fowl. Club and list ( Mike Gilbert). I am not familiar with Araucana but they lay lovely colored eggs. Have a Club too. Ann Charles at www.skyblueegg.com breeds top quality Araucanas.
Best,
Karen
