Hi, my name is Pipo and I recently started raising quail.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not necessarily new to chickens, but this is my first time raising them/spending a significant time around them.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

No chickens yet. Decided to go with quail first. I bought 5 female and 1 male. Incubating 16 eggs, of which 4 have hatched so far (they are staggered because I didn't incubate all at once).

(3) What breeds do you have?

coturnix coturnix

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

The serenity of it all 😅 very calming/fun to watch both adults and chicks. I got into this to be more self-sustainable (along with growing my own produce). As a scientist, it's hard to not want to track their weight/behaviour etc. and record it. Will come in handy once I decide to try selective breeding

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I have ADHD so this list is massive. I'll just stick to the ones I do most often: play guitar, play video games, rollerblade with my labrador, gardening, setting up aeroponic system for indoor grow.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have 7 year old labrador and she is my best friend. I studied marine biology but it has been incredibly difficult getting consisten enough work in the field, so I'm trying my hand at entrepreneurship. I'd also like to make a band (maybe metal or hard rock) and go back to playing live gigs as I once did.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :DH

Google, of course :D a few months. Decided to join because I started streaming my quail on twitch as a means to keep track of them while I'm away/sleeping. I now added a second camera to my brooder. It's incredibly fun watching the chicks mess around!
