I have 5, 14wk old chicks, 1 of which is a Roo. At what age is the Roo mature enough to start doing his thing? He is a beautiful Ameracauna and I want to put him in with my 1yr old girls to start mating so I can hatch some new chickies for my husbands boss.

Roosters are sexually mature at around the same time as their sisters start laying eggs. Small breeds from 16-18 weeks and heavier breeds 20-26 weeks. Roosters and hens growing up over winter when the days are shorter may take longer to mature though.

Well he's been crowing for several weeks now! And the spurs are just sprouting on his legs. So........I should be on the lookout for mating then, huh?
