Who else got stricken by the chick bug?

Oh my, I was not going to buy any this season whatsoever. My 2 turned into 8 last year. I just bought 3 more 2 days ago.

A cuckoo Maran, light brahma and golden Lakenvelder. I'm not sure of the temperaments of the Marans or Lakenvelder, but the brahmas are sweet.

Sorry for the bad quality pic. My babies think I'm their mama already.

I got bit after we added 5 more chicks, but mom said no more unless I hatch them myself. So eggs went in the incubator lol

    And they are adorable!

I'm kinda secretly hoping the brahma is a boy. ;)

I doubt it, I bought it from the pullet bin.

My dark brahma lays an egg a day for 12 days before she takes a break. A nice large egg too. Her egg is two toned, darker brown at the bottom and lighter brown on the top.

    Here's my beauty.

Nicole, I'm already thinking about next years chicks (sigh, yes I have the disease too, am treating it by using my time planning for next year!). Anyway, I research just about every breed someone says they have. Found this blog on Lakenvelders, you might wanna read it.

Now, one review is not definitive, but it sure scared me off. Good luck with your chicks........oh, and try going to the Chicken Breeds section, I'm sure there is a thread on Lakenvelders and I KNOW there are threads on the Marans.

After reading that blog, I took her back and exchanged her for a Salmon Faverolle. A breed I've always wanted. She'll be beautiful as an adult and a great layer!
