I bought a trio of seramas this morning and the friendlier older one falls asleep almost instantly when she is held. I'm really worried she is sick! These chicks are for my 12 y/o son and he is super in love with them.

Is it normal for chicks to fall asleep when handled?

If these are new chicks, then yes they just fall asleep… wherever they are and whatever they are or were doing. The warmth of your hand is perhaps comforting to the bird and thus helping in the nap time. If these are new chicks, fill the rim of your waterer with small rocks or marbles, these guys will and have fallen asleep over the waterer and drowned. Do this with all bantys and your little one as well. You have shown them how to drink and sprinkled some feed on the floor for them to peck at, I suppose.

So, yes they just fall asleep, babies are like that,

Best to you and your birds,

    RJ

The chick that is falling asleep in our hands is a 2 month old. I've been monitoring her in the cage and she seems clumsy also. Maybe she is just not 100%, but the other chicks seem fine.

I just hope they don't get it if she's contagious.
