Yes I am new to all this chicken thing. But I promised my grandsons we would have chickens for this summer. So here I am . I have been reading everything I have time for. I know I want about 10 to 15 chickens. I have a wonderful coop that is large enough for 10 chickens. I only want egg layers, as I know we would never kill one and eat it. I have no idea what type of rooster to buy, if any. I want quiet, friendly chickens. that lay nice fat eggs.I live in Putnum Vally New York. Kisses to all.
I really like my barred rock hen, she is nice and lays very pretty brown eggs. Welcome to BYC, glad to see you here and I hope that you find what you are looking for with this site!
You really don't need a rooster unless you want to raise chickens. Our Bard Rock is my wife's favorite. She is a great layer and just a pet. She is the first to greet us and always wants a handout. We can not pick her up and hold her. Our no. 1 pick.
Greetings from Kansas, Naturegal, and ! Pleased you joined us! Best wishes to you and your poultry plans!!
