My son has 8 11 week old chicks and 28 9 week olds. We just graduated the 11 week olds to the chicken coop last week and the others are in 2 separate pens in our garage. It is getting hot and crowded for them so we want to introduce the 28 younger ones to the 8 older ones. This afternoon we tried putting 6 younger ones in the coop for a trial run, but the rooster is keeping them away from the feed and water and the dominant pullet pecks when given an opportunity. The rooster is actually doing a good job of fending off the bossy pullet. Should we forge ahead with the other 22 or try something different?

from Ohio. So glad you joined. Can you divide the coop with wire so they can see one another. I do feel that the 9 & 11 week olds are a little young to be in with a roo. He could hurt them. Good luck.
