I have always wanted chickens of my very own. I live a crunchy life style, and knowing where my eggs come from (happy chickens) is an amazing thing to me. Grant you, I know I have some time before my gals are old enough for that. I bought them at Atwoods; which meant taking out those awful red pullet tags. They were not marked by breed, but I think the black and white one is a Rock Barred, and the two reds are New Hampshire Reds.... Though I could be wrong. These are my lovely ladies, still small, and living in a Rubbermaid in the bath tub with their heat lamp, plus some hanging things to play with. It's cool... Buys me time to finish fixing up their coop and run. I want to dig out the ground on the inside, and then fill it with sand (low dust) so I can clean it with a kitty litter scooper (tray will have sand too). On the outside, I'm going to line the ground with bricks and put wheels on the back of the structure so that it can be moved easier, and the brick will help keep critters from getting in. I still need to finish painting, and add some gutters w/ water collection bucket to water my garden. So far I have learned a lot by reading everyone's posts, and I hope to continue to do so. If you have any advice please feel free to share.
New fave pass time? Watching my lovely ladies!
