This is my first time raising chickens. I am getting (2)Cochin Silkie cross & (2) Mottled De'uccle next week! I am waiting for them to hatch now and I can barely stand it!!! I'm so excited!! Are both breeds pretty good layers? :D Any advice would much appreciated! #newchickenmom

Welcome to BYC! [IMG]We're glad to have you.

Being bantam breeds, those two breeds tend to not be great layers. But, they'll still lay some eggs and often go broody to hatch them. For more information on them, I suggest reading reviews on them at the Breeds section: Chicken Breeds Also check out the Learning Center, for information on caring for them:Learning Center Articles

Good luck with them! I hope they all hatch well.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

    My name is Sarah too!

Those breeds are not especially good layers. But they are friendly and broody.

    Good luck!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. None of the breeds in your crosses are good layers, but Cochins and Silkies are excellent brooders and mothers and all of the breeds in your crosses are docile and friendly birds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
