I purchased my first chicks Friday from Tractor Supply Chick Days. When I asked the age of the chicks the salesforce was unable to answer. For these type events, what is the typical age?

Are they vaccinated before shipping or is that something that needs to be done at a certain time?

Yes, they arrive at TSC quite young, possibly only 36 hours old.

But some hang around the store for a while until someone takes them home. Approximations only: Wing feathers come in during the first week. Tail feathers are seen around 2 weeks. Shoulder feathers come in around 3 weeks. Very much approximations, but if there are no tail feathers at all the chick is probably less than two weeks. This doesn't work on all chicks, but that's how I figure out ages at the feed store and here at home when I hatch my own. Very rough estimate, but better than nothing.
