    Hello! I am from Central, Michigan area. We have a small farm with 2 horses, goats, 2 breeds of chickens and a few geese. Looking forward to chatting it up

    Have question I have two chicks both black in color with alittle gray. Well moms a white something lays med brown large eggs. Well I thought for sure her babies would be white and they are both black. How does this happen dads a gray and red mixed farm roo. Any help would be appreciated thanks

    Chicken genetics can be funny like that -- also keep in mind that down color at hatch is not always indicative of plumage color at maturity -- how old are these chicks? Mixed breed birds, such as the rooster in this equation, bring a lot of unknowns to the table.

    Yesterday 4-16-17 Easter babies anyways I was shocked when I seen two black chicks from my solid pearl white hen. I love them though. Adds some color to my flockz

    The folks on the "what breed or gender is this." thread also know about color genetics. If you post your question to them, I bet they have an answer for you.
