My husband & I had contemplated getting chickens for a long time. Then our friend had a Brodrock from her first flock that was a huge bully, her name is Loretta. We decided to take Loretta and then about a month later getting two Wyandott's 4 months. So now even though the little coop will work for the three of them, they are my little ladies, my pets, my babies and I want to build them a palace they can enjoy. I want to do this using pallets and other finds and spending as little money as possible.
Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.
There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

It's easy to find playthings for chickens. They like to peck at or scratch in a bale of hay or straw. Building roosts is easy with wood sawhorses or planks, just make sure everything is smooth as possible, and chickens do like a broader perch, not like a cage bird. Our chicks have a piece of drain tile to run through in their tractor, and crates stacked and secured to make a condo for them to jump up on. Apple or cabbage or cob of corn secured with a string makes fun to watch chicken volleyball. I know someone locally who makes chicken "bunkers" (shelters from sun and predators) out of old Christmas trees, stumps, shrubs, and the like.
