New to raising egg laying chickens

There are several egg laying chickens I am interested in raising. Would you recommend getting at least two of each breed (Orpington , Holland, Ameraucana, Wellsummer, Plymouth Rock):cdor could I get one of each?

You can certainly get one of each. Many of us do that and it works out well.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. If you want two of each breed, there's no reason not to go for it. All of the breeds in your list will get along fine as long as they are not overcrowded and you don't have too many roosters. Being overcrowded can quickly lead to aggression, fights, biting and feather plucking, and even cannibalism. The recommend ratio of roosters to hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. As they mature and their hormones kick in, too many roosters will become very hard physically on your hens, over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason you really need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching and 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in that regard.
