    Hello BYC from Arizona,

I'm new here and just started my little flock. I have recently acquired 4 baby chickens and so far so good! I have 3 Ameraucanas and a Rhode Island Red. I have been reading multiple threads here for a while now and it seems to still have lots to learn. Any advice would be very appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Syryn

    Hello, and welcome to BYC!

    The tips I have are:

    1. Have water & food available to the chicks at all times.
    2. Even if you're inside, have a heat lamp on them. Not to close and not to weak.
    3. If your chicks don't drink the water, then gently dip their beaks in the brim of the water a couple of times and they will get used to the idea.
    4. You might want to have newspaper and shavings available to since they are messy animals. You may need to change the litter up to twice a day.
    5. When the chicks get older they will soon be adventuring and try to fly/jump out of the brooder. Make sure you have a screen to cover the top.
    6. Have this (or a kit like it) on hand and know how to use it (https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/...dy-and-essential-supplies-and-how-to-use-them)
    7. Enjoy your chicks! That is whole point, right? [IMG]

    Out to pasture
To show chicks where their food is tap on the container(like their momma would do)- same with water.

Be certain your heat lamp is secured and cannot fall onto the chicks or their bedding.
