Hi everyone! I'm new to the chicken life...I've wanted chickens for a while but never had the courage to take the plunge into poultry parenthood... until one day, my husband's brother-in-law came to visit from the big city way up north. He was driving around, exploring with my nephew and found Tractor Supply. By chance they had just gotten in a shipment of chicks, so he bought 6 of them... no waterer, feed or feeder... just chicks. Be brought them back to my Mother-in-law's (who is in her 70s, has rheumatoid arthritis in her spine and her husband is battling cancer) house and presented them to her with great pomp and circumstance as if he had done her some great service and then proptly left... while I was witnessing this bizar turn of events, my sweet mother-in-law proceeded to cry because she was so overwhelmed by the idea of trying to take care of 6 little chicks, her husband, and unpack her house load of boxes after their move across country (oh yes, I forgot to mention that my in-laws had just moved from California to Louisiana and had only been in their house for about 6 hours). Through her tears she asked me to take the chicks, so I did. I have no experience with chickens and don't even know their breed. My husband's brother-in-law claimed they were barred rock, but their down was a pale yellow. So I googled chicken breeds and think that they might be Leghorns and that maybe they are about 18 weeks old. I'm happy yhat I do finally have chickens, even though I didn't actually choose them, lol.

Thank you. I've tried posting pictures but can't seem to figure it out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong... I click on the photo icon in the comment box, choose the photo I want to upload and click submit... it loads for a few minutes then kicks me back to the forum.
