We have had chickens since June but as they get older they end up being roosters so we haven't had any eggs yet. I have all my chickens out free ranging and noticed one of the buffs was missing. I went looking and found her in the coop on the floor just laying there. She let me touch her which was strange bc they are still nervous around us. Is she starting to lay an egg or should I pick her up and check if she is ok?
How old are they? Is she alert? Is she in a corner, against a wall, or in the middle? Has she scooped out a depression in the middle of the litter? Do they have a nest box available? Do they show signs that laying is imminent? Reddened combs, face and wattles, checking nest boxes, singing egg songs, squatting. Give her a while, and if things don't change after an hour, check her.
No she way laying against the back wall. We picked her up and put her in a nesting box I just checked on her and she is sleeping. I really don't know what to do if she is sick or anyrhing.
