Hi all just got 10 ameracuana/EE whatever chicks and now they are about three weeks old. Never raised chicks before and just want some imput from some people who know what they are doing. IMG_20180321_084026.jpg IMG_20180326_193754.jpg

Those were taken yesterday. So far all have survived they are eating and drinking a few seem to be growing slower than some but I'm guessing that's fine. I have the temp at about 90 at the floor and straw as the bedding they seem to be eating it but there starter food has grit in it so I guess that's ok.

When is it ok to start giving them bugs and table scraps? I haven't given them anything yet and was going to wait till they went out to the coop, and will they learn to forage for themselves bc I watch them dig around the straw.

Mine are between 1-2 weeks old and go NUTS over freeze dried mealworms. I keep chick grit in their food sprinkled on top, and every couple days add probiotics to their water.

ETA: I also keep a fresh large chunk of grass/dirt in their brooder box for them, they love pecking through it and dust bathing when the dirt dries.
