New to to keeping in upstate ny.

Welcome to BYC! I would suggest reading up on your local chicken laws and going from there.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community!

You will want to do some chatting in your state thread to see how they do things up there, where they get their feed, medications, supplies, etc... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/69812/new-york

Barred Rocks are a great breed. Mine are very cold tolerant and do better in cold than the do the summer heat. But they tolerate that too. They are good layers, friendly and are fast learners. They enjoy free ranging but can tolerate run confinement as well.

Enjoy your BR's! And welcome to our flock! :)

Nice to meet you Shawn. I would suggest you put smaller mesh wire around your brooder so the chicks can't escape. It's always good to have a wire top as well. Some start flying early and can fall or jump out and not be able to get back inside.
