New too raising baby chicks, need Help!

The baby chicks keep getting the pine shavings in their water dishes. Then the pine soaks up all the water and they are left without while I am gone. I have been cleaning it out 4-8 times daily and refilling it. I put a dish underneath and newspaper yet they somehow fill that up with pine shavings. I can't raise the water dish because I don't think they would jump to reach it. Help!!

I raised my waterer up on a brick, and they were able to reach well. Are you using a jar-type waterer? They still kick some scraps up in there, but I only have to change everything out once a day, as I would, anyway.
