I joined a few mnths back and then got crazy busy.......so here goes.....

We r a military family newish to mid missouri.....my husband and I met just 3 years ago and brought three kids each to the family. We have 3 girls and 3 boys ranging in age from 6 to 17. We first thought about owning and raising our own feathered babies last year. When we finally got some things settled we decided to dive head first w 5 black australorp babies. Then we precided to add 4 emden goslings, 3 harlequins, 3 roeuns and 3 blue slate turkeys.......out of all of them we only lost one precious blue slate poult, who we had named double dot. So now along w our 6 kids, 2 dogs (Molly the basset mix, and Zoey the dachshund), 2 cats (Saige and Guinness) we have Pothead, Big Mama, Shrimp and Eyebrows(black australorps), Frogger, Darlin, Loud Mouth, and Bossy(the Embdens), the Quack Pack(unnamed ducks) and Wishbone (turkey). Because of a recent tragedy, we lost our 5th black australorp and Giblet, our other turkey.....but we went and purchased 3 royal palms and 5 buff orpington chicks......

All our children and furbabies bring great joy to our lives and our feathered babies have done nothing more then enhance it that much more.

This site has been a great source of real life info from day one. Books are great but experience speaks for itself. Thank u all so much. I look forward to getting ur advice and hopefully one day contributing my knowledge as well.

Sounds like you have a busy family.

We r VERY busy but surprise surprise my "city" kids have adapted very well to country life......they all love helping w the gardens and the animals.....housework is a different story....lol

I should clarify that our darling Pothead is actually a Barred Rock but doesn't seem to like when we point out that she is different....she's sensitive about her spots...lol
