Hi guys! I am the newest duck owner (so I feel) in existence, lol. We've been having our two Rouens since early May and have raised them so far since ducklings. Froderick & Khloe are their names and they're five and half months old <3 Recently Khloe has been wanting to stay in her little "house" more than usual and Froderick does this thing where he sits ahead of her as if he's protecting her. I've heard and read some things that indicate Khloe getting ready to lay, but she seems so unlike herself that it has me worried. She doesn't quack like she used to, which was every time we'd step out the door, and she and Froderick aren't eating as much either. They are still drinking water and yesterday they even went to town swimming in their little pool. IDK. I'm very worried, especially after reading horror stories about ducks and laying. Does anyone know what normal pre-laying behavior is for a first egg duck?

Greetings from Kansas, Duckiechick, and [IMG]! Pleased you joined our flock! I have had ducks but I do not consider myself much of a student of them. You might trying copying and pasting what you wrote into the Ducks Forum here https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks There are some knowledgable quacker keepers on BYC and they will be better equipped to tackle your question. Best wishes and thanks for joining our poultry community! [IMG]
