Hi everyone. My wife and I are thinking about getting some chickens. We are new to this and still trying to figure everything out before we get any. Any and all advice is welcome.

Welcome to the flock. The Learning Center will give you a lot of information - which may help you decide if you really want chickens or not.

Here you go...much better. Whew, not sure where that one came from...I've never seen anything
like it!
Hope you find out what you want. This is the best place to be. BYC has so many different threads you can go to for information. Just type in what you are wondering about in the bar above, you will find many different ideas, and I'm sure there will be a few that you will be able to relate to, and that would work for you.
Looking for egg layers? Looking for small cutsie chickens? Lots of info on both. :) Good luck.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Drumstick and Cynthia have given you some good advice (Cynthia that is one scary chick! :gig ) and I will add this great section from the learning centre https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/getting-started-raising-chickens Lots of super articles on getting started.
Good luck with your plans and be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Definitely check out our Learning Center link that Yorkshire coop left with you. There is loads of useful information there that will keep you from making beginners' mistakes. Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html that can help you select the best breed for you. Just be sure and click on "show more characteristics." Even if you don't purchase your birds from MM, the chick selector is still a valuable tool. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your chickens.
