Newbie from east Texas with Runners and Muscovies

Thanks so much! We simply wanted ducks for the lake, and not only have enjoyed them immensely, but NOW want chickens, too! We let the ducks (and 4 geese) just roam at will, and have had about 30 little ducklings in the last 2 years.

Maybe we will actually LEARN something about them on this wonderful forum!

Thanks for the kind words. I am trying to do a lot of reading here before I ask dumb questions. There are some VERY smart and wise people on this site, and I am learning so much! Like how many mistakes we have already made!

I have noticed that there are a lot of descriptions/names for the ducks, ie: lavendar, etc. Is there a website where I can learn what the differences are and how to tell what I have? I know they are all ducks (see, I was sure someone couldn't resist, so I beat you to it!), but I have multiple colours and assume they are called this or that.

Thanks again!

We now seem to have developed a major problem with otters on the lake, and they are killing my poor ducks!! I am now down to about 12 or so!! We have hired a trapper to trap them and get them out of here, but I am so sad that I have lost so many. Poor DH had to put one of my favs down the other day-Harold, the white duck in the photos, who was Mom to the Runner ducks! *yes, we thought she was a HE when we got her!* Does anyone have any other solutions to rid our lake of otters?
On a brighter note, I came home from work yesterday to find that Loretta had hatched 12 new babies! And we had not even realized she was nesting somewhere!
