Hi Everyone. I stumbled upon this site while perusing for info on various chicken breeds. I'd like to set up a backyard coop, but realize I need to first get as much info as possible. I look forward to reading the threads & participating in the discussions.

Welcome to BYC. First of all, are chicken allowed where you live? That's the most important thing to find out before getting any.

Yes, they are. In our county chickens are allowed on lots smaller 40,000 sq. ft. With permits. The coop & run must be inspected before any chicks are brought on the property & permit obtained first. No roosters permitted however.

G’Day from down under Idypintura [IMG] Welcome!

As you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out [IMG]

Thank you kindly for your warm welcome. I have a lot to learn & it certainly seems as if I've come to the right place. I can look at chicken pics all day. [IMG][IMG][IMG] [IMG]I know nothing of Australian chickens, but the wines are superb. Looking forward to some great discussions.
