We were told that they are all females and are the same age (July 6, 2020):
- Black Australorp
- Barred Rock
- Red Star

The Red Star should be sex-linked, so there is a 99% chance that it is female. The other two need to be older in order to tell their sex, but the breeds sound correct.

They look like the breeds you listed. The red sex link is a female because they can be auto sexed at hatching, but I would wait for the other two.

By the way, in case you didn't know, sex-linked chickens, if bred correctly, are auto-sexing. Basically, the male and female chicks are two different colors.

One way to tell what sex they are is to hold them by their feet. The female will curl her body and try to fight, but the male will just hang there.

That actually is not an accurate way of telling them apart. Comb and wattle development at a young age and feathering at an older age are the accurate way if telling them apart. As well as attitude and how they hold themselves. And leg size. As well as other indicators.

Wow, thank you for all the prompt responses, it is greatly appreciated, BYC community!
