New to chickens. Got some chicks from a friend and recently finished a coop. Have 6 chicks about 9 weeks, unfortunately I think I only have 2 hens in the bunch. So we are going to a local farm that has some chickens for sale and will buy a few 1 year olds. We have a mixed flock, the only 2 I can positively identify are the barred rocks. The grown birds we are going to pick up will be black australorps.

We are a family of 6. Our kids are 8, 6, almost 4, and 3 months.

Welcome to BYC and congratulations on your chickens (and for actually having a finished coop).

You should post pics of your mixed flock.

Wow... You're a busy person! Welcome from eastern NC (Jacksonville)! So, we're neigbors.... what part of NC are you from? Just started chickens last February ourselves. We choose sex-linked Golden Comets, so no surprises with roosters! We're very happy with our girls![IMG]

[IMG] from California. Sounds like you have a wonderful family that will only get more interesting with those new chicks you're adding. Best of luck! [IMG]
