Newbie making incubator

Hi all, im new to this, im going to be making my own incubator from a polystyrene box, any hints and tips would be very helpful and much appreciated , im wanting to hatch my chinese painted quail eggs that i have in my aviary with my finches,

Also i recently brought a chicken coop and would like around 3 as pets for me and my kids, what breed chicken would you say are good egg layers but also friendly for children, would like the kids to be able to handle them etc from chicks, was thinking something fancy like silkies, orpingtons, cochin, bantams, which would you say are best, thankyou for reading, Sue xx

I would pick silkies, or bantam cochins and even seramas if the kids are gentle.
