Newbie Question - Food/Water Inside or Out

I was wondering what some experienced Arizona chicken owners do. We live in an area filled with predators and are busy making a coop predator proof before adding new chicks. Pack rats are an issue. What do you guys suggest to do feed inside or out. They will not be free range - they will have an enclosed run made of hardware cloth (top and sides). Thanks.
