Newbie to chickens

Hi I'm Anna I currently don't have a flock trying to get all the knowledge I can and get my youngest daughter and her two older siblings past her first year before we get a flock. I've had dogs and fish but my husband grew up on a farm and has experience with various farm animals. We want to be more self sufficient and as the world has gone cooky we've been compiling knowledge because if things go the way we thing they will food is going to be scarce with possible power out this winter we've got a garden in and some none perishables in the house but there is only so much we can do. Our eldest has high functioning autistim, our middle dislikes speaking and eating solids because my husband spoiled them cause they were tiny as a baby, our youngest was born this year.
