    Hi! ,
My name is April and I'm super new to keeping and raising baby chickens. I have two only and I'm raising for eggs. I have approximately 4 week old RIR and approximately 5 week old Ameraucana/Easter Egger. Was hoping for the Ameraucana but probably got an EE. They have been spending a few hours every day out in the run so they get used to being outside. I've started them on organic starter and when they get bigger, they'll be fairly free range. I also have two small dogs that are very interested in the chicks but haven't let them be introduced yet. I'm so happy I found this forum as I've learned so much already!

Thank you for the link! Now I know where to look. I've just been using the "leave it" command for them and it's been working while the chickens are in the run. I'll just have to keep at it as the chicks get bigger.

It's usually best if dogs and chickens NEVER meet. So many newbies write to say their pet dog/cat massacred their chicks. Often is it small breeds like yorkies, Chihuahuas and doxies.

You never hear of a chicken killing a dog.

My poor babies are spending their first night in their coop and it's storming. So sad. I went out to check on them and they are barely making a sound, so that makes me feel better.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! [IMG]

It's always scary leaving your babies outside on their first night! I always worry about them. But they will be fine. I know how bad the "empty nest" syndrome is too when the house is no longer filled with the sounds of peeping! LOL

Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock! :)
