Really looking forward to raising our little flock!

We purchased our first home last July and can't wait to get our urban hobby farm going. We have had our six fluffball chicks for a week now and they are doing great! They are starting to get their little wing feathers and showing some personality. Hopefully we don't have any roosters. I can't stop watching them!

We have a dog who is IN LOVE with them, she will sit and watch them for hours if I let her. She is already protective of them and shoos the cat away from the laundry room door where their box is.

Our flock consists of four breeds:

1 Ameraucana
1 Golden Lace Wyandotte
2 Golden Sexlinks
2 Barred Rocks

Can't wait to learn all that I can, so happy to be on this site!

Oh nice, tell me how your golden sexlinks turn out, I am really thinking of getting some if they are as friendly as my red sexlink use to be. They look like such pretty birds as well. I love the white and cream colors on their feathers.

Congratz on the babies and welcome to the site as well.

Thank you, excited to be here! So far the sexlinks seem the least skittish and most curious. They don't flinch when my hand comes toward them and like to perch on my fingers!

Welcome!

Congratulations on the new home and feathered babies. Best wishes to you and them.

I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

and some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

It's nice to hear you're enjoying your new chicks. Don't forget to take lots of photos, they grow fast!

Welcome to BYC and the poultry keeping adventure - so glad you've joined both!
It is amazing how much time one can spend just watching the little buggars, isn't it? You'll be surprised at how quickly they grow and change. Have you got their coop ready for them to move into -- that day will come before you know it.

Overwhelmed by coop options but reading everything I can so we can start building asap. Luckily my SO has building experience so we should be able to finish ahead of our little brooding babes.
