my wife and just joined backyard chickens and have never raised chickens. we live on 1 acre lot and need to decide on a chicken coop to build. Very excited about this new adventure that we are starting.

The Coops section and "Coops and runs" forum should give you plenty of ideas - in fact, possibly too many!

I'd also suggest looking at the "predators and pests" forum as your local critters will also influence your design (of your run, at least).

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread and they can also provide some wisdom as to what set up works best in your area.
