Hi we got our first chicks this past March. My husband built our coop. All 6 of our chicks grew into pleasant hens that let us hand feed them and pick up and pet. In fact they do this really funny routine to let you know they want held. They kind of freeze then stick their hind end out so you pick them up. As of today all 6 chickens are laying eggs. One started laying about a month ago and then each week another one would contribute. Today I went out and found all 6 eggs, 2 each in a nest. Was very excited! Was going to add a picture though did not see right off how to do this. I look foward to reading posts on this site and learning more.
Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. It's always exciting to get those first eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?

Welcome to BYC, their little routine sounds like mating behavior - they must really like you. Do you have a rooster?
